Nurul, a Potential Prefect!

I have written to Mdm Hanim, Nurul's form teacher, with regards to a possible oversight. Nurul has expressed her disappointment of not receiving a Star Speller Certificate in spite of getting all her spelling tests correct during Term 1 i.e. the first quarter of the year (This was before she made her first mistake! See my earlier post). I wanted to seek clarification on the criteria of getting the Certificate as I initially suspected that there may be additional requirements that needed to be met in order to be awarded the Certificate. I told Nurul that she should have been more outspoken to clarify this issue with her. But I do understand her shy nature and I hope she will gradually overcome this weakness.

In my email to Mdm Hanim, I have also asked about Nurul's development in school in terms of academically and socially. I have received positive feedback from her which really made my day, despite the fact that the non-award of the Certificate was an actual oversight.

In her email, she commented that Nurul is a joy to teach and that she is an independent learner and is self-disciplined. She further commented that Nurul is a likeable character and that she has many friends, despite her shy and soft-spoken nature. She added that Nurul is one of her top 10 students with high ability. Those are not all. Yes there is more! Nurul is a potential school prefect! She advised that if Nurul is able to show more confidence and be more outspoken in Term 4, she will be selecting Nurul for a prefect post.

I couldn't wait to tell Nurul and Hubby. I told them immediately upon seeing them at home. Nurul has previously expressed her interest in being a prefect. On hearing this, she was delighted. I could just see it in her eyes.

Nurul got her Star Speller Certificate which was presented to her in class.

I thank Mdm Hanim for making my day. It truly brightened my gloomy Monday.

I know this has yet to come true, but it is coming. Nurul has to work on what she wants.

She will get there.
