Nurul's Primary 1 SA1 Marks

English Language 94% (Should have been 98% after adding silly mistakes!)
Mathematics 88% (Should have been 94% after adding silly mistakes!)
Malay Language 100% (Excellent job!)

After seeing the marked papers, I realise that I have to put in more effort in ensuring Nurul practices Mathematics on a daily basis to avoid future careless mistakes and confusion. I have underestimated the math exam paper. I will make sure that this is the first and last time Nurul achieving marks less than 90%.

Mission starts today.

Bottom line is, Nurul has achieved Band 1 in all her subjects. Overall, good job I would say.

Excellent job to be achieved in future.

"Mak bayek kayu"

Kakak was scolded for tying her hair when it's still wet. She has that habit. I was so frustrated after saying the same thing over and over again.

Adek seeing my frustration and Kakak being scolded, blurted, "Tak tau.. mak bayek kayu... tak tau... mak bayek kayu...".

What? She even knows this already? I looked at Kakak, smiled, then asked Adek to repeat again and again.

*Laughs*

"Adek nak Doknel"

I woke up this morning and found Adek talking to herself. I suspected she was practising to talk using longer sentences.

I greeted her, "Morning Adek!". She replied cheerfully, " Morning Mama!"

Kakak was still sleeping.

We chatted a while and then I asked Adek for a hug. She opened her arms wide and I embraced her. I asked, "Adek bring the bottle outside." Adek questioned, "Osside?" I replied, " Yes outside." :)

She went out after opening the room's door herself. I remembered when she was struggling to open the same door and blew up because she failed to do so.

Before she went out, I told her to ask Bibik to prepare food for her. I asked, "Adek nak mamam ape?"

She replied, "Adek nak Doknel!"

I asked what she wanted from McDonald's. She said, "Fench Fyes".

I said McDonald's does not prepare French Fries in the morning and asked if she would like a Hashbrown.

She nodded her head and said, "Ashbong, Ashbong".

I gave Bibik S$4 dollars to buy 2 Hashbrowns from McDonald's; 1 for Adek, another 1 for Kakak.

Adek's language:
Doknel means McDonald's
Fench Fyes means French Fries
Ashbong means Hashbrown

My ever inspirational song, Hero by Mariah Carey

There's a hero
If you look inside your heart
You don't have to be afraid
Of what you are

There's an answer
If you reach into your soul
And the sorrow that you know
Will melt away

And then a hero comes along
With the strength to carry on
And you cast your fears aside
And you know you can survive
So when you feel like hope is gone
Look inside you and be strong
And you'll finally see the truth
That a hero lies in you

It's a long road
When you face the world alone
No one reaches out a hand
For you to hold

You can find love
If you search within yourself
And the emptiness you felt
Will disappear

And then a hero comes along
With the strength to carry on
And you cast your fears aside
And you know you can survive
So when you feel like hope is gone
Look inside you and be strong
And you'll finally see the truth
That a hero lies in you

Lord knows
Dreams are hard to follow
But don't let anyone
Tear them away

Hold on
There will be tomorrow
In time
You'll find the way

And then a hero comes along
With the strength to carry on
And you cast your fears aside
And you know you can survive
So when you feel like hope is gone
Look inside you and be strong
And you'll finally see the truth
That a hero lies in you
That a hero lies in you

From Wikipedia on Hero (Mariah Carey song)

"Hero" is a song written and produced by American singer Mariah Carey and Walter Afanasieff, and recorded for Carey's fourth album, Music Box (1993). Its protagonist declares that even though we may feel discouraged or down at times, in reality we are "heroes" if we look inside ourselves and see our own inner strength; in time, this will help us "find the way". It was released as the album's second single in the fourth quarter of 1993 (see 1993 in music) and became a worldwide commercial success. "Hero" is considered one of Carey's signature songs, and she regularly performs it when invited to charity events and closes most concerts with it. It is also known for being one of the most frequently performed songs at her concerts next to "Vision of Love". The song was nominated for the 1995 Grammy Award for "Best Female Pop Vocal Performance", losing to Sheryl Crow's "All I Wanna Do". "Hero" won two ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards, one ASCAP Pop Music Award and one BMI Pop Award for the Songwriter Award.

Singapore and H1N1

The Ministry of Health (MOH) says it is a matter of time when Singapore will see an Influenza A (H1N1) case.

This makes me even more obsessed with washing my hands as frequent as possible.

I have always washed my hands at least every hour.

Now, I make sure I wash them every 10 minutes!

Duffy Mercy Acoustic Version. I like!

Nautique Personalised Water Suites TM by Venturer

Marina Bay Sands (MBS) Skypark project will be ours!

I'm so excited.

We are now very close to getting one of the MBS Skypark package that we have been very keen to tender for. We thought we didn't have the financial capacity to do so hence chances of us tendering for this project are slim. Well, we can still proceed to tender but we may back out due to lack of capacity. Being a SME, the banks and financial institution have limited resources available to provide financial assistance. We consulted our banker prior to this, and did not obtain positive reply.

I came across a financial institution, owned by 2 local banks and a financial institution in Japan, who were keen in providing financial assistance to give us a headstart for the MBS Skypark project.

One of the condition of award of the MBS project, is to provide a banker's guarantee of 10% of the contract sum. This is equivalent to a million Singapore dollars to be parked with the bank issuing the banker's guarantee as full pledged collateral.

Thanks to the government's assistance, the financial institution is keen to explore a relationship with us. Backed by the government's LEFS and secured by a confirmed contract, we would be able to obtain cash enough to fund the banker's guarantee. Of course, our financial background and project references will be the backbone of this new application. Historically, we have what it takes to secure such projects. However, if successful this would be our biggest project ever!

I can't wait to see the fruits.

Cheers to us and our future!

Poem for Mama

You were there when I cried
Raised me up when I fell
Being patient when you can't
Held me up when I was down

I didn't care about your feelings
I didn't care about what others think
I didn't know it affected you that much
I didn't bother to ask

You kept quite preferred not to speak
Deep inside I knew you were hurt
I still didn't bother to ask
I let it pass

All the time I thought you weren't there
All the time I thought you didn't care
All the time I thought you were selfish
All the time I was wrong and naive

All the time you cared
All the time you shared
All the wrong I said
Why didn't you react?

Now the answers are right here with me
The time I held my own
I promise there is always you
Deep in my heart my mother my own

Missing Tutoring

I miss tutoring.

The feeling of sharing students' success and seeing smiles on their faces on the day of exam results, flashed through my mind as I was filing office papers today.

I had been tutoring since the day I started my accounting journey, the day when I was still attending lectures to attain a Diploma in Accountancy. I started off tutoring my younger brother, Syamil, my younger cousin, Sulaima and their schoolmates. He was then in Primary 4. My fees to his schoolmates were only S$15 per subject. Most of them were average students from low-income families. I tutored due to interest and not for money. I was there as a tutor as well as a homework helper. The kids love me and my teaching methods as I grew their interest in the school subjects especially mathematics. I was dedicated to tutoring simultaneous to my studies. As they began to show improvements, I became popular among the mothers the pupils of Dazhong Primary School, where Syamil attends his primary school. Mothers of other neighbourhood schools came to know me by word of mouth. More pupils joined the group tuition, too many that I had to start a new group.

I continued tutoring them until they completed Primary 6, and then Secondary 1. Their Primary 6 results were my biggest achievement. Pupils who were in EM2, including Syamil and Sulaima, were posted to Express Stream. Most of those who were in EM3 were posted to Normal Academic Stream. I was proud; both for their achievements as well as mine.

I stopped for a while after attaining a Diploma to work for a MNC here.

I continued tutoring after having Nurul as I left my job to be at home taking care of Nurul until she was 1 and a half. I expanded by tutoring 'O' level mathematics as well as Principles of Accounts (POA).

I got another job and another and finally at an Audit firm but did not stop tutoring. I saw success after success and began to realise tutoring is part of my life; a skill that is gifted to me. I was taking up ACCA at that same time.

Shaista was born. I became more occupied.

It is now 4 years since I last tutored.

I miss tutoring. I really do.

Repetition is boring me

I wonder how long I would be doing the same thing over and over again.

I am hungry for challenges and thirsty for success.

I am getting bored.

My kids and their future are my inspiration to keep me going.

Dear God, please show me the way.
