I sent Shaista to a friendly neighbourhood hairdresser last Saturday to have her hair trimmed as it was already covering her eyes. As we were alighting from feeder bus number 913, I asked her whether she would like to have her hair cut. Almost instantly she replied,"Cut, cut, cut!" with her first and second finger resembling a pair of scissors, whilst rubbing them against her forehead from left to right and from right to left, as though cutting her eye level fringe. Nurul was having her MPM class. Last Saturday was an additional class conducted by her MPM instructor, Jazsintha, to prepare her primary one students for the upcoming SA1 math.
Shaista and I reached the salon. We saw a number of customers waiting for their turn. As we enter, Shaista joyfully repeated, "Cut, cut, cut!". We were greated by the Assistant Manager of the hair salon, Candy. I greeted her with a smile and hand signalled to her, Shaista's cutting her hair. She understood and asked us to wait. Shaista started to lie on the sofa where we sat, making herself felt at home. In less than a minute Shaista was called to sit at the hairdressing chair. We then understood that the people whom we saw were all waiting for their family and/or friends to finish their hair-do.
I lifted her up the chair and on the hard cushion used to heighten the chair for ease of attending to a child of Shaista's height. I waited behind her. Another hairdresser (by her accent, I think she is from China), who assisted me with my last hair rebonding, who was also the one who cut Shaista's hair a few months back, voluntered to cut Shaista's hair once again, even though she was at that time attending to a customer. Candy then took over her work.
Shaista was quite obedient and responded well when asked to 'look up' and 'look down' while the China hairdresser cuts her hair. I have asked her to trim Shaista's fringe to slightly above her eyes and the back to shorten by about an inch.
It all went well and Shaista is now back with her cute little rounded face.
